COURSE OUTLINE

Since this is a year long course, the following topics will be covered and assessed in the following format:

 

Fall Semester

Spring Semester

  • Impacts of Video in Society & Copyright
  • Planning a Video (Pre-Production)
  • Intro to Video Equipment
  • Intro to Filming (Production)
  • Intro to Video Editing (Post Production)
  • Publishing and Presenting Videos

 

While we may be producing videos throughout the year, you will be assessed on each project according to the expected mastery level according to the module that is being covered. Students will be expected to apply new and prior learning into your all projects.

Grading Policy: All students will be graded through the Project-Based Learning (PBL) standards implemented at Roy Miller High School Metropolitan School of Design. Categories of assessment are as follows:

Content: 75%

  • Grades will be determined using evaluation rubrics and weighted as indicated in the table below. Rubrics will be posted in Canvas. You are responsible for reviewing the rubrics and raising questions or concerns about them prior to submitting an assignment.

Students will be expected to complete all assignments. Soft skills are assessed at least once per marking period.

 

To maintain academic integrity assignments will be screened for authorship, date created, and date submitted. There will be zero tolerance for academic dishonesty, plagiarism, copyright infringement and cheating.

Late assignments are immediately docked 20% of the grade. Late assignments are defined as a student who was present the day an assignment was due and did not submit on time or a student who is deemed absent unexcused the date an assignment is due.

 

Late assignments must be submitted for reconsideration within 2 instructional days of being late. You may re-submit a failed assignment for reconsideration within 2 days of being graded.

 

Per district policy, students have up to 2 extra days to finish assignments due to an excused absence without a grade penalty. Students who are not in class due to unexcused absence, suspension, or expulsion are still responsible for completing assignments and meeting deadlines on time.

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

 

Instructional Methods / Activities / Projects

This course is made up of a series of assignments and projects to assist you in

achieving the course learning outcomes. The primary focus for the course is the ability to understand and demonstrate the entire video production process. Each marking period you will work on various combinations of journal entries, class discussions, peer reviews, collaborative, pre/post production research, personal project management.



 

Note: There will be projects that require the use of “actors”, voice overs or narrators in your projects. Although It is not required for the student to personally fulfill these roles, the student is still required to include content that deems the need for these participants and is responsible for finding alternatives to themselves to meet the rubric requirements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

To participate in the online course environment, login to Canvas and follow the

instructions provided for each week of the course. Instructions, project guidelines,

and relevant resources will be provided as needed throughout the course. Special announcements or instructions may also be placed in the announcements area.

 

COMMUNICATION AND SUPPORT

Interaction with the Instructor:

The instructor is available in person daily during the instructional day. Conference periods are reserved for parent contact, lesson planning and grading of student work. If you have a general question about the syllabus, class content, feel free to ask after instruction is concluded. Personal concerns involving grades, progress, etc. should be addressed with me before class or after instruction is concluded. Please do not use the passing period for this purpose.

 

Cell phones: Personal Cell Phones are occasionally used during instructional time for capturing images, recording video content, or other instructional purposes. Beyond that Photography and recording audio or video is generally prohibited during the instructional day.

Note: is NOT acceptable for a parent to call or text a student on their cell phone. School phones are available for students to use for emergency purposes and parents must contact the front office in the event of a need to communicate with students during instructional time.
